NAGPUR: The next time Nagpur University valuers goof up while checking papers, they will face severe action. Officiating vice-chancellor BV Gopala Reddy said that strict measures to punish lackadaisical valuers would be put in place in 10 days.
Recently, TOI brought to light a case of incorrect valuation, in which a student, Richa Inamdar, knocked the doors of the high court to fight against the injustice.
Following that, the high court criticised the university for its deteriorating quality in valuation of papers.
In a press meet on Saturday, pro V-C Arvind Chaudhary said if such cases are brought to the university's notice, tough action will be taken against erring teachers and officials.
"We will not tolerate mistakes that lead to mental and physical harassment of students and officials," he said.
He also commented on the recent mix-up in the BCom examinations where the wrong question paper was given to the students. "We had to reconduct the examination due to mistakes by the teachers which resulted in a major financial loss to NU. If such mistakes happen again, NU will suspend the teachers at fault and debar them permanently from all academic circles."
The meet was also attended by registrar Mahesh Yenkie and controller of examinations Debendranath Mishra who hoped that with the implementation of these directions, such incidents will be reduced.
"A one-man inquiry panel will be appointed to probe those involved. The teachers concerned will be kept under suspension and punishment will be awarded to them depending on the gravity of the mistake. This will be a time barred inquiry of six months," he said
