Stage set for 1st Centre for Species Survival

Nagpur: The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Species Survival Commission (SSC) and the Wildlife Trust of India (WTI) have announced setting up first regional Centre for Species Survival (CSS) in India, reports Vijay Pinjarkar.
The CSS is partnership between leading conservation organizations and the IUCN SSC — a commission made up of over 8,300 conservationists worldwide.
This collaborative effort aims to enhance conservation efforts by wildlife experts and specialist groups and safeguard the rich biodiversity in India. On Wednesday, a memorandum of understanding was signed between Jon Paul Rodríguez, chair IUCN SSC, and Vivek Menon, executive director, WTI. This will be the 10th centre in the world and the first of its kind in South Asia.
The centre will provide a platform for conservation practitioners to network and share best practices as well as to contribute to species status assessments using the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species.
