‘Social media is a great medium to promote literature’

Nagpur: “Social media is a great medium to promote literature. However, we should ensure that the quality of literature is maintained,” said Akhilesh Dubey, former vice-chancellor of Mahatma Gandhi International Hindi University (MGIHU), Wardha, on Saturday.

He was speaking at the concluding day of the three-day international Hindi conference and 43rd convention of Bharatiya Hindi Parishad (BHP) organized by PG Hindi department of Nagpur University and Haryana Granth Academy, Panchkula, at Gramgeeta Bhavan.

Tribhuvannath Shukla from Jabalpur, Munna Tiwari, head of Hindi department, Bundelkhand University, Mikola from France and Vikas Mishra were the other speakers.

The concluding day witnessed three informative interactive sessions on topics ‘Literature and cinema: Present challenges’, ‘Literary concerns in social media’ and ‘Electronic media: New experiments in literature’.

Avadhesh Shukla, professor, MGIHU, said, “If we look at the objectives of literature and cinema, we realize that they are not concentrated and there arises a need to collectively discuss the challenges.”

The keynote speakers at the seminar included R Jaichandran, professor at Kerala University, senior academicians Vimla Singh, Pranav Shastri from Pilibhit, Akhilesh Shankhdhar from Imphal and Ashwinikumar Shukla from Banda.

Anandvardhan Sharma, former vice-chancellor of MGIHU also spoke. Hindi experts MG Devki, Champa Singh, Puneet Vishariya and Bharat Singh were the other speakers at the session.

Earlier, on the second day of the conference, Ramkishor Sharma, former chief of Hindi department of Allahabad University and Deepak Prakash Tyagi, professor at Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay Gorakhpur University, senior journalist Rahul Dev, spoke.

Those who also spoke at the meet were Meera Dixit of Allahabad University, Sabhapati Mishra, Santram Vaishya, Umashankar Upadhyay, Alok Pandey, Gajendra Pathak, Shivkumar Dubey and Lalita Tripathi.
