Nagpur: Hindi songs based on classical music were presented with aplomb at a programme titled ‘Sur Sangam’, organized by Swardhuni, at Scientific Society Hall, Laxmi Nagar, on Saturday.
The event commenced with Savitru Pophali’s soulful rendition of ‘Nisa ga ma pa ni’, a popular Yesudas number. This was followed by ‘Suno sajna’ by Vandana Deshbhratar, ‘Ankhiyan sang ankhiyaan laagi aaj’ by Chetan Elkunchwar and ‘Sawan aaye ya na aaye’ by Sanjay Kate and Anshu Booty, a superhit duet originally sung by Mohd Rafi and Asha Bhosle.
Hemant Darvekar presented all-time hit ‘Madhuban mein Radhika nache re’ while Gopal Ayyar and Anshu sung ‘Beeti na bitai raina’ beautifully, much to the delight of the audience.
Melodious songs like ‘Silsila ye chahaat ka’, ‘Megha re megha re’, ‘Albela sajan aayo re’, ‘Ka karu sajni aaye na balam’, ‘Ke pag ghungru bandh Meera nachi thi’, ‘Deewana mastana hua dil’ ‘Baar baar tohe’, ‘Baiyan na dhaaro’, ‘Laaga chunari mein daag’ and ‘Ek chatur naar’, besides others, were presented that won accolades from the audience.
The singers were Anshu Booty, Hemant Darvekar, Vandana Deshbhratar, Savitru Pophali, Anushka Kale, Uma Raghuraman, Rachana Punjabi, Sanjay Kate, Yash Kher, Anand Mohane, Chetan Elkunchwar and Gopal Ayyar.
The programme was anchored by Anand Mohane while the music arrangement was done by Parimal Joshi.
Anjali Kher, music teacher at Narayana Vidyalaya, Sanjay Uttarwar, principal of VIT College and Sanjay Kate were the guests.
