NAGPUR: Fire department of NMC finally slapped a show cause notice to Care Hospital for not complying with fire and safety norms. It took seven days for the fire department to issue a notice after fire broke out at the hospital on December 5.
A senior official confirmed that the hospital has miserably failed to follow fire safety guidelines which it had accepted to comply while obtaining compliance certificates.
The hospital has violated as many as 16 guidelines and those include non-functioning of wet raiser, no side-space margins and blocking of entrance gate facing Wardha road.
The official said that the hospital has been given three days to reply or the fire department will initiate action under the Maharashtra Fire Prevention and Life Safety Measures Act, 2006, which empowers the chief fire officer to disconnect water and electric connections. Besides, the act also gives power to the CFO to issue directives to the commissioner of police to
seal the building.
Mewanwhile, a joint team of city's fire department, headed by CFO Naeem Khan, and state health officials on Sunday conducted surprise visit at Suretech Hospital and detected many violations. Sources said the hospital had a permission of ground plus three-storey building, but is actually a five-storeyed structure.
A team of NMC health department sealed the sonography machine at the Suretech hospital for breach of terms of licence. Sources said the team, headed by officiating deputy director (health) Dr Savita Meshram, conducted a surprise visit of the hospital. During their visit, the team found that the hospital had failed to maintain records of patients who had undergone sonography test.
