Satranjipura zone to auction 32 properties to recover Rs 2.86 lakh

NAGPUR: After successfully auctioning nine properties in Hanuman Nagar zone, and recovering Rs9,11,823 from tax defaulters paying up a few minutes before the auctions at

Gandhibagh

zone, Nagpur Municipal Corporation is set to auction 32 properties of tax defaulters in

Satranjipura

zone on December 4. Together, these property owners have defaulted on Rs2.86 lakh property tax.

Zone’s assistant municipal commissioner Prakash Warade said that the defaulters had been offered extensions to clear their dues, however, not many bothered pay heed. Thus, the properties of the defaulters were first attached, and now a public auction will be organized.

The proposed auction has been prompted by standing committee chairman

Sandip Jadhav

asking officials to work towards recovering property tax arrears. Notices regarding the auction have already been issued to the property owners.

According to data compiled by the zone, around 13,978 property owners have defaulted on property tax to the tune of Rs87.11 crore. Of them, the zone has executed 660 warrants to property owners and shortlisted 32 properties for auction. All the properties to be auctioned are open plots and situated on the same premises of Krushnanand Gruh Nirman Sansthan, Chikhali.

Similarly, Ashi Nagar zone has also planned to auction 12 properties on December 11.

Hanuman Nagar zone will auction six remaining properties on December 15. Earlier this month, the zone auctioned 16 properties but since there were no bidders, the auction for six properties was deferred. Now these properties would be auctioned at the zone office itself.

However, Jadhav expressed anguish over slow procedure to auction properties of tax defaulters. Jadhav is not happy with assistant municipal commissioners of Laxmi Nagar, Dharampeth, Dhantoli and Nehru Nagar, sources claimed. He has already directed a departmental inquiry against

Mangalwari

zone assistant municipal commissioner Harish Raut for postponing auction of properties of tax defaulters.
