Sangeet father-son duo leave a classic stamp

Pt Prakash was born in 1945 in a musical family. He took first steps in musical training under the aegis of his father and guru Bhaskarrao Sangeet. He has acquired the title of a teacher of music from Akhil Bharatiya Mahavidyalaya Mandal, Mumbai. He has consistently sung for AIR since 1975. Having performed at various music festivals hosted by Akashwani, Sangeet has received coveted awards from them. In order to further the tradition of music, he has trained students under the guru-shishya tradition as well.
On Sunday, the father-son duo began the show with raga Lalit and complemented each other with ease. Commonly performed at dawn, raga Lalit is described as serene and devotional. Sandeep Gurmule played harmonium and Sandesh Popatkar accompanied Sangeet on tabla. Bhimrao Bhure and Priyanka Maske provided musical support with tanpura.
The duo then showcased their prowess in Natya geet with the rendition of ‘

for Cultural Centre, Civil Lines, was infused with the rhythm of Hindustani classical music. For the latest edition of Brahmanaad, the monthly classical music programme by SCZCC, Mumbai-based classical vocalist Prakash Sangeet and his son Chaitanya Sangeet were the headlining artistes.Gwalior
and Patiala gharana. A top graded artiste for AIR and Doordarshan, Prakash is well-versed in several forms of classical music such as bhajan, thumri and dadra. ’, from the noted Marathi play ‘Katyar Kaljat Ghusli’, originally sung by Pt Chandrakant Limaye. ‘Sarvatmaka Sarveshwara Gangadhara Shiva Sundara’, another natyageet, followed suit. The duo presented the soulful bhajan ‘Karam ki gat nyaari’, before choosing to end the programme with ‘Jamuna ke tir mat jaiyo’ a song from 1952 movie ‘Baiju Bawra
