Sakal Maratha Samaj seeks liquor ban
Nagpur: The city wing of Sakal Maratha Samaj has appealed to the state government to impose a ban on sale of liquor on the occasion of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Jayanti, which is celebrated on February 19.The Samaj submitted a letter to key government officials, including chief minister Devendra Fadnavis, deputy chief ministers Ajit Pawar and Eknath Shinde, district collector Vipin Itankar, along with the director general of police, and superintendent of police, excise department.The letter was presented by members of the Sakal Maratha Samaj, including Prakash Khandagale, Amol Mane, Swapnil Kale, Balasaheb Gaikwad and Gajendra Jadhav.Highlighting the cultural and historical significance of the day, the Samaj emphasized that Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj's Jayanti is observed with enthusiasm across the country and worldwide. "The organization believes that closing liquor outlets on this day will honour the legacy of the revered Maratha king and maintain the sanctity of the celebrations," a representative said.The Samaj also urged the government to take swift action against those flouting the ban and honour the sentiments of millions who revere Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj as a symbol of courage, unity and leadership.
