Nagpur: The South Korean Air Force's Black Eagles aerobatic team of nine aircraft landed at Nagpur airport on Saturday evening. The aircraft first reached Kolkata Airport from Singapore before reaching Nagpur, sources said. The fleet made a transit halt at Nagpur for rest and refuelling.
The 9 T-50 Golden Eagle aircraft were on their way to Saudi Arabia. The team would be performing at the World Defence Show in Riyadh, planned to be held in the first week of February. One C-130 transport plane was flying along with the fleet carrying the support staff. Two more C-130s were supposed to follow later in the night.
The team, which included South Korean Air Force personnel, are expected to take off on Sunday morning.
Since the aircraft cannot fly long distances, the fleet is halting at different airports along its route. The fleet reportedly made a refuelling halt in Japan. This was also the first time that the Black Eagles received refuelling support in Japan signalling warming of ties.
The Black Eagles are a team of eight performing aircraft of the South Korean Air Force. The team had missed the Dubai Air Show last year after Japan denied refuelling, reports said.
Sources said the fleet would fly to Jamnagar from Nagpur, reaching Saudi Arabia. The planes, known for leaving thick white smoke, had led to a flutter in the city.
