RTO detains 3 school buses for over speeding
NAGPUR: Even though the regional transport office (Nagpur) city officials claimed that all the 967 buses ferrying schoolchildren had complied with the laid down safety norms, still buses can be spotted over speeding. Interestingly, the flying squad of city RTO itself on Wednesday detained three school buses for over speeding, while penalizing six other buses for violating safety norms, especially exceeding seating capacity.
1x1 polls
Confirming the news, deputy RTO Vijay Chavhan told TOI that the flying squad found three buses over speeding. The buses were carrying children of School of Scholars, Centre Point and Raisoni School. Of these buses, the squad found speed governance tampered in School of Scholars’ bus and even the steps of the bus were found damaged, he said.
Other glitches found in these buses included missing first aid boxes and fire extinguishers.
To a query, Chavhan said the department had issued compliance certificates to almost all buses after they cleared all norms required under the 27 guidelines of Maharashtra Motor Vehicles (Regulations for School Buses) Rules, 2011. He clarified that the RTO was committed to strict implementation of bus safety policy. The deputy RTO said the drive would also continue on Thursday morning.
Meanwhile, works pertaining to non-transport vehicles like registration of vehicles, will not be done at all three regional transport offices in the city following statewide upgrading of Vahan website for two days— November 27 and 28. Normal work would resume from December 1, said sources.
