Nagpur: The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), Nagpur regional unit, has seized cocaine worth over ₹4 crore and arrested a Mumbai-based woman travelling by Hazrat Nizamuddin–Bengaluru Rajdhani Express on April 12. The contraband was concealed inside shampoo bottles.
Acting on specific intelligence, DRI officials boarded the train at Nagpur railway station and intercepted the passenger, suspected to be linked to a network operating from Mumbai. She was asked to deboard at Ajni railway station.
A search of her luggage led to the recovery of two unusually heavy shampoo bottles. On inspection, officers found 50 sealed yellow capsules filled with cocaine after draining the liquid. The total seizure amounted to 853 grams.
The bust underscores Nagpur's growing vulnerability as a narcotics transit route, with traffickers increasingly using the city to move drugs to markets such as Mumbai, Pune, and Bengaluru.
In a recent operation, the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), Mumbai zonal unit, seized 210kg of ganja worth around ₹20 crore in Pardi and arrested four persons.
Over the past few months, DRI Nagpur has cracked multiple cases, including seizure of 128kg mephedrone from a Wardha factory in December 2025, 522kg ganja at Bhagemari toll plaza in January 2026, 729kg ganja in a Bhilai-linked case in February 2026, and 4.9kg mephedrone in Amravati the same month.
Officials say traffickers are adopting increasingly sophisticated concealment techniques—from capsules hidden in personal care products to specially designed compartments in transport vehicles.
