NEW DELHI: Police in Nagpur have detained a man and seized Rs 1.5 crore in cash from him during a routine check. The incident occurred on Wednesday night in the city's Central Avenue area.
The man, a 42-year-old resident of Yashodhara Nagar, was riding a scooter when police stopped him. A search revealed Rs 1.35 crore hidden in the scooter's storage compartment and an additional Rs 15 lakh in a bag he was carrying.
“The man's vague responses during questioning raised further suspicion," a police official stated.
Authorities are investigating if the money is connected to illegal activities related to the upcoming state assembly elections or money laundering. The Election Commission has been notified of the seizure.
