WARDHA: Even as the Hindi university at Wardha celebrates its 14th foundation day, it has been hit by controversy once again. RIP leader Ashok Meshram held a press conference to present several documents of corruption in the varsity, and the action recommended by the prime minister's office, HRD ministry and even the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG).
In a letter to the prime minister on December 26, Meshram has levelled several charges against vice chancellor VN Rai, including involvement in awarding fake degrees and supporting plagiarism by professor Anil A Rai. Furnishing documentary proof, Meshram said, "The VC had constituted Prof S Kushwaha Committee to inquire against Anil Rai in February 2010, but the varsity is denying any such inquiry in a RTI reply now."
"The university is targeting people who protest.
Rajeev Kumar Suman's PhD registration was suspended for raising his voice over forged certificates. Actually, the administrators of the examination department should have been suspended," said Meshram.
He also pointed out that the executive council of the university had in 2008 mentioned that examination in-charge KK Tripathi had forged computer degree certificate to get a promotion. "Later, VC Rai had himself cancelled a PhD entrance examination in 2010 after a fraud in results, but still no action has been taken against Tripathi," Meshram said.
Meshram has threatened an agitation in front of the Parliament during the budget session if government does not take action against VC Rai. They have also demanded sacking of Anil Rai, institution of a high level inquiry on corruption, illegal appointment and fake degrees.
Vice chancellor Rai refused to comment on the allegations by Meshram.
