NAGPUR: The brothers from Solapur had physique of Greek gods. Their charm was no less than Bollywood heroes. Also, their story also seemed straight from a potboiler. One of them had come to seek his girlfriend's hands in marriage. The grave assault by the girl's family landed the brothers in hospital with cut injuries on their neck on Monday.
Mohsin Farooqui's tale seems to follow movie script.
The 25-year-old dietician had fallen in love with a teenager from Nagpur two years ago. She had gone to Solapur for participating in some school activities. The love developed despite them being from different communities and expected resistance. She was 16 then and turned 18 on May 18. Mohsin and his elder brother landed at her doorstep at Juni Shukrawari.
The brothers were talking to the family members when the girl's uncle attacked them with a few friends. "I still would like to take her with me. It was unexpected that we would be attacked," said Mohsin. "The families knew about us. The girl's father had offered us food too. It was the uncle who barged in with a sharp weapon and started attacking us," he said.
Mohsin was with his elder brother Shahnawaz who is a gym instructor. Mohsin had a shop which he had shut down now. The youths arrived in the city a day before and stayed in a hotel. They had gone to meet the girl's family. The brothers were in the drawing room when accused Rakesh Kaushik and his friends came in with knives. "We could see the girl's father talking on his cellphone continuously. He was talking outside the house so we could not hear him speak. The food was about to be served to us when the assault took place," said Mohsin.
"I saw my elder brother being attacked. They turned to me when I intervened. Someone had locked the door from outside. My girlfriend helped us by opening it. We ran for our life," said Mohsin. He still has hopes of reuniting with his girlfriend. Mohsin was injured on the left side of the neck. His elder brother's neck too was slashed in the front. Police said the youths were barely able to speak.
The brothers rushed to a private hospital. Kotwali police reached the place first but Ganeshpeth police registered the case arresting Kaushik for attempt to murder.
