NAGPUR: Infuriated by encroachment on footpaths by migrant groups, the residents of Mohan Nagar have submitted a memorandum to the commissioner of police, demanding immediate removal of the illegal occupants.
A delegation led by Parivartan Citizens' Forum secretary Dinesh Naidu submitted the memorandum on Monday. In their complaint, the citizens highlighted how encroachers have occupied the busy Kingsway Road, right from LIC Square to St Joseph’s Convent School, and also the bylanes of Mohan Nagar.
“These people are using footpaths for all their household activities, right from cooking meals to bathing in public. They are also engaged in all kinds of illegal activities like gambling, consuming alcohol in open, indulging in fights with commuters and causing hindrance to smooth movement of traffic. The chances of fatal accident are also high as their kids roam carelessly on the roads with heavy traffic,” said Naidu.
He added that the encroachers are also creating hygiene issues as they openly defecate in the Kasturchand Park and surrounding areas. “The authorities must take immediate action against the encroachers and also make sure they do not encroach again,” said Naidu.
