NAGPUR: The Indian Medical Association (IMA) national body has called for closure of all non-essential services including the OPDs for 24 hours from 6am on Monday to 6am on Tuesday

in the private sector. Except for emergency and casualty services all diagnostic facilities in pathology, radiology etc will remain closed.
The call comes following the ongoing agitation against the brutal attack on Dr Paribaha Mukherjee, by a violent mob at NRS Medical College, Kolkata. IMA is also observing nationwide protest on Saturday and Sunday by wearing black badges, taking out peaceful protest marches, dharnas and demonstrations.
Dr Kush Jhunjhunwala, Nagpur IMA president said that IMA demands the biggest possible action by the West Bengal government. All the legitimate demands of the resident doctors in West Bengal should be accepted unconditionally.
Dr Ashutosh Jadhav, general secretary of central MARD in state told TOI that on Monday all residents across India will wear helmets and black badges while working under the banner of the United Resident Doctors’ Association.
IMA has requested all other associations of the fraternity to join in the struggle. IMA has been demanding a national law against hospital violence. IMA has declared a zero-tolerance policy against violence on doctors and health care establishments.
Dr Ashok Adhao, Patron IMA Nagpur and IMA Maharashtra, Dr Kush Jhunjhunwala President and Dr Manjusha Giri Hon. Secretary IMA Nagpur have appealed all allopathic doctors to keep their non essential services closed for 24 hours from Monday 6am.
