Nagpur: Commissioner of police Amitesh Kumar has suspended police sub-inspector (PSI) Dhanaji Marakwad attached with Kalamna police station for his involvement in an extortion case.
The Imambada police have booked Marakwad and and his accomplice Ajay Batra under sections 384,385,120(b) of IPC.
Police said PSI Marakwad and Batra had extorted Rs85 lakh from Kishore Zam (61, a resident of Rambagh Colony) threatening to implicate him in a false case.
Batra had paid Rs1.80 crore to Zam for buying Korbit cryptocurrency. He then filed a false complaint against Zam for not providing him the currency and gobbling the amount, police said.
Later, Marakwad conspired with Batra and threatened to book Zam under MPID case. On the basis of this threat, Batra reportedly took Rs85 lakh from Zam.
Marakwad offered a settlement in the case in lieu of Rs27 lakh. Despite paying the money, the PSI kept threatening Zham, said police.
Later, Zham filed a complaint against the PSI with the economic offence wing.
