PESO, DISH Begin Technical Investigation

Nagpur: The Petroleum and Explosives Safety Organisation (PESO) and the Directorate of Industrial Safety and Health (DISH) have begun a detailed probe into the Raulgaon unit blast. Senior sources said officials from both agencies visited the site on Sunday to conduct a preliminary inspection.PESO is scrutinising whether the detonator packing unit stored explosives beyond the sanctioned limit and whether certified non-sparking equipment was used. The agency is also verifying if mandated temperature and humidity conditions for handling explosives were maintained and whether adequate earthing systems were installed to prevent friction or static discharge.
DISH, on the other hand, is examining compliance with the Factories Act, 1948, with a focus on worker safety and workplace conditions. Officials are assessing whether shift workers were provided sufficient rest, given specialised emergency-response training, and supplied with anti-static clothing and other prescribed safety gear.Investigators are also working to establish the precise origin of the blast and the production stage at which it occurred. They are reviewing adherence to standard operating procedures, authorised personnel limits in the packing room, possible mechanical failure, and the dates of the last electrical and fire safety audits.Samples collected from the site have been sent for forensic analysis, and officials said the exact cause will be determined after the laboratory report is received.
