Paver blocks come loose at Manish Nagar T-Point
Nagpur: Concrete paver blocks installed alongside the Manish Nagar T-point, which was concretised last year, are repeatedly coming loose, raising concerns about quality of work. Local shopkeepers alleged poor workmanship by the Public Works Department (PWD) and its contractor at the busy junction.According to traders, the paver blocks were not installed properly and couldn't withstand heavy vehicular movement at the junction. They claim trucks, buses and other heavy vehicles regularly pass through the stretch causing the loosely fitted blocks to shift and dislodge. Damaged sections also raised concerns regarding road safety, particularly during peak traffic hours when loose blocks, uneven surfaces can pose risks to 2-wheeler riders and pedestrians. "The blocks started coming out within a short period. Every few weeks we see sections getting damaged. This clearly points to poor-quality execution and inadequate planning for the traffic load on this road," said local resident and businessman Rakesh Kuttarmare. Some sources claimed certain shopkeepers may have removed a few of the blocks to create space in front of their establishments. Speaking to TOI, a senior PWD official said a meeting was held with the contractor to address the issue. "We have instructed the contractor to undertake repair work. The road and affected stretch will be inspected to determine exact reason behind the damage. Repairs will be carried out and measures will be taken to ensure problem does not recur," the official said.
