Nagpur: The residents of East Nagpur and those exiting the city towards Bhandara will be happy to know that a part of the under-construction Pardi flyover will open for traffic on September 19, i.e. on Ganesh Chaturthi, following instructions from Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari.
The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) officials have been told to open the flyover from Wardhaman Nagar on Old Bhandara to Pardi octroi post towards Bhandara at 11am on Tuesday. Additionally, another arm towards Kalamna APMC market too will be opened for traffic. The work on two more arms towards Inner Ring Road and Central Avenue is still on.
Notably, Gadkari has given a January 26 deadline to NHAI to complete Pardi flyover, which is touted as Vidarbha’s longest such structure.
On Sunday night, Gadkari and East Nagpur MLA Krishna Khopde inspected the flyover work for over an hour. Khopde told TOI, “Gadkari expressed his distress at NHAI officials for not developing the square where flyover will end towards Kalamna APMC market. The road from the market side and landing of flyover are in one square. Directions have been given to redevelop the square for preventing traffic congestion and mishaps.”
The works on railway under bridge and railway over bridge are also on and will take a long time to finish. Vegetable and chicken markets have been proposed as part of the project.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi had performed bhoomipuja of the Pardi flyover project on August 21, 2014. After a delay of two years, the NHAI kicked-off works in April 2016 with deadline of March 2019. The cost of the project is over Rs 665 crore.

The total cost of the project is estimated to be Rs 595 crore in the first phase and Rs 627 crore in the second phase. The NHAI has also requested funds from the GDA and GMC for developing the drainage network along GT Road.
