NAGPUR: Rajendra Poyyam, pay and accounts official at Panjabrao Deshmukh Krishi Vidyapeeth (PDKV), was caught by a team of state Anti-corruption Bureau (ACB) while accepting bribe of 5,000 from a private contractor, on Friday.
Sources said complainant Pradeep Choudhary had bagged the contract of delivering flex boards to PDKV. He made delivery of some flex boards worth around 44,360 to various departments in January and February.
Poyyam, a class-II official, demanded bribe to ensure that the bills were cleared quickly and payment was readied. Choudhary decided to approach state ACB on April 23.
ACB team, led by superintendent of police Vasant Shirbhate and addl SP Sanjay Purandhare, laid a trap. Poyyam was caught while accepting the bribe from Choudhary at his office. An offence was registered at Sitabuldi police station. Searches were conducted at his Ramdaspeth residence till late in the night.
