NU vs NU: MCom exam dates clash with PhD entrance test
Nagpur: The Nagpur University (NU) exam section and PhD cell have left several students in the lurch and wondering whether to take a call between two upcoming exams.Students have raised concerns over clash in examination dates of MCom and PhD entrance test (PET) to be held between May 9 and 12.Making matters worse, MCom exams are also overlapping with chartered accountancy (CA) examinations. This has left the students in a dilemma whether to set their priority and opt out of competitive exams.A delegation of students on Thursday met deputy registrar Motiram Tadas, in-charge, Board of Examination and Evaluation, to highlight that MCom exam dates in May 2026 coincide with multiple CA group exams as well as online PET. As per the schedule, CA final (Group I) exam will be held on May 2, 4 and 6, followed by Group II on May 8, 10 and 12. The CA intermediate (Group I) exams are slated for May 5, 7 and 9, while Group II will be conducted on May 11, 13 and 15. Additionally, CA foundation exams are scheduled between May 14 and May 20.Compounding the issue, the NU PhD entrance examination is scheduled from May 9 to May 12, which directly overlaps with both CA and MCom examinations.
Students have urged the university administration to reconsider and revise the MCom exam timetable to prevent scheduling conflicts. They stated that the current overlap is causing undue stress and may impact their performance. The students called for an early resolution, expressing hope that the university will take prompt action to ensure students can appear for all examinations without inconvenience.Exam officials said they are now planning to hold PET on Sunday. "Four-day slot was given in case the number of examinees is high. With this issue, we shall plan to wrap it up in one day. MCom final-year students need not worry as university shall hold another PET in October so they can enrol for PhD this year only," they said. Also, NU will be holding special exams in case any student is forced to miss university exam due to other exam schedule.
