NU men, women paddlers in final

Nagpur: On an otherwise dull Sunday for Nagpur University, its men’s and women’s paddlers kept the city flag flying by entering the finals at the 25th Maharashtra State Inter-University Sports Festival at the Ravi Nagar sports complex.
The NU women paddlers entered the final beating Vasantrao Naik Krishi Vidyapeeth, Parbhani 2-0. Ananya Sakalkale defeated Mitali Pawar 11-1,11-2 while the pair of Ananya and Disha Girdhat trounced Rutuja and Mitali 11-1,11-3. The winners will meet paddlers from Savitribai Fule Krishi Vidyapeeth, Pune who defeated MAFSU Nagpur 2-0.
In men’s section, NU beat Vasantrao Naik Marathwada Krishi Vidyapeeth, Parbhani 2-0 while Kaviyatri Bahinabai Chaudhary Uttar Maharashtra lost to Dr Baba Saheb Ambedkar Marathwada Vidyapith Sambhaji Nagar 2-1. For NU, Kaustubh Udar thrashed Harshvardhan Ghadge 11-5,11-8 whereas the pair of Udar and Aadi Chitnis defeated Harshvardhan Ghadge and Saurabh Maske 11-7,11-4.
Apart from paddlers, NU women’s volleyball team also fared well, entering the semifinal.
On Sunday, NU athletes too pocketed two silver and two bronze medals. Swati Uikey got a silver medal in women’s long jump. Gital Sonekar got bronze in women’s 800m clocking 2:28.42 min. Men and women athletes won a bronze each in 4x100m relay. tnn
