NSUI stages protests against edu minister Patil
Nagpur: The National Students Union of India (NSUI) on Monday staged protests against state higher and technical education minister Chandrakant Patil over his controversial remarks against Bharat Ratna Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar, Karmaveer Bhaurao Patil and social reformer Mahatma Jyotiba Phule.
Led by state general secretary Pratik Kolhe and district vice president Pranay Thakur, the activists threw ink on Patil’s posters and shouted slogans against him in front of NU’s Jamnalal Bajaj Administrative building. They then met vice chancellor Subhash Chaudhari and requested him not to invite the minister in any of the university’s programmes in future. They warned of launching an intense agitation if the minister ever sets a foot inside the NU premises.
Patil is under fire from opposition parties like Congress, NCP and Shiv Sena’s Uddhav Thackeray faction over his controversial remarks at a function in Paithan. Patil said that Ambedkar, Phule and Karmaveer Bhaurao Patil had all started schools in the country by begging to the people as the government failed to help them out.
Nagpur district NSUI president Anirudh Pandey, Roshan Larokar, Vidyasagar Tripathi, Chetan Meshram, Dayashankar Shahu, Shashank Anjikar, Vibhor Ambatkar and other took part in the protests.
