NMC to fete prominent city artists today

NAGPUR: The Nagpur Municipal Corporation will felicitate prominent personalities from city who have contributed to the fields of art, culture and music during the ongoing Nagpur Mahotsav at Yeshwant Stadium, Dhantoli, on February 11 at 7pm.
Prominent artists from city including Pt Prabhakarrao Deshkar, Pt Appasaheb Indurkar, Vinaykrao Waldhurkar, Gopalrao Wadegaonkar (classical music), Surmani Prabhakar Dhakde (instrumental violin), Parag Ghonge (playwright and stage performer), Rajesh Burbure and Sunil Waghmare (who set records for singing 80 and 93 hours respectively), Prashant Gaikwad (percussionist), MA Qadar (Qadar Orchestra), Rajabhau Chitnis (senior mimicry artist), Madhup Pandey (poet), Mansi Sharma, Matriy Mohan Dhote (national child award winner) and Chindhu Sonbarse (Tanha Nagpuri), will be felicitated by Rajya Sabha member Vijay Darda.Mayor Archana Dehankar will preside over the function.
Standing committee head Sandeep Joshi informed that along with felicitation, a musical programme 'Aur Karvan Banta Gaya' by local performers will also be staged on Friday. For music lovers, a classical music-based 'Talchakra' (fusion) will be presented by young and talented classical exponent Rahul Deshpande along with Pt Vijay Ghate (tabla), Mansi Tapikar (classical dance), Mukul Dongre (drums), Santosh Mulekar (synthesiser) on Feb 12. On the concluding day, there will be a lot more music in the form of a musical night from noted singers like Suresh Wadkar and winner of Zee TV's Sa Re Ga Ma Pa series Vaishali Made, he said.
