The MLA wants the government to intervene and find a solution to the Torgatta deadlock.

The protestors are opposing Surjagarh, its expansion, six newly approved mining compartments and proposed Damkondwahi mine.

Atram said the protesters are lodged at the venue for more than 100 days now, leaving their livelihood and incomes, protesting against the roads, police stations, mobile towers, bridges so on which are nothing but development. “People are exercising their right to protest but they should realize that development is necessary too. But I will raise the issue of deterioration of health due to dust and losses to the agricultural sector in the assembly,” said Atram, adding good roads would reduce accidents and dust.

“The road from Ashti to Lagam is ready but we need to stretch it to Alapalli and further till Sironcha. Accidents will reduce as better roads are constructed,” he said.

Meanwhile, the residents of Etapalli, joining hands under the banner of ‘Taluka Anyay Virodhi Sangharsh Samity’, have staged protests, organized rallies and submitted a memorandum to assistant collector Shubham Gupta against Surjagarh mining activities. “The mining activities are consuming substantial water from natural resources, which is depriving the population dependent on it. The water level is going down with excessive usage by the mining company,” said Mahesh Pullulwar, one of the agitators.

“The government should first develop a rail route and use it for ferrying excavated ore. The public road cannot be allowed to carry iron ore by truck,” he said, demanding the construction of proper roads too. “The mining companies must use their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) funds to build a multispecialty hospital as the dust is taking a toll on our health,” he said.
