GONDIA: The municipal employees' strike has become a bone of contention between NCP and BJP as both the parties are trying to claim credit for the issue. About 200 temporary employees of municipal council are on strike from March 3 to press the demand for permanent employment.
Initially, the employees had started strike under the leadership of advocate Yogesh Agrawal of Bapu Yuwa Sanghathan.
The employees, working in the municipal council for more than 20-25 years, have been agitating through different forums, but without any solution. They again started strike from March 3. But as there is no regular chief officer there was no one to take cognizance of strike. Later, senior NCP members Manohar Walde and Ashok Gupta joined it.
However, when the question of claiming credit came, the BJP also jumped into it with the support of 18 members in the house of 40. Those who supported advocate Agrawal included Deepak Kadam, Vinod Kirad, Ashok Ingale, Sanjay Kulkarni, Deepa Kashiwar, Abhay Agrawal and others.
