NCI best cancer hospital of its kind in India: Noel Tata
Nagpur: Chairman of Tata Trusts, Noel Tata, on Saturday hailed the National Cancer Institute (NCI) in the city as possibly the best hospital of its kind in India. Noel Tata praised the hospital during his visit to the facility with chief minister Devendra Fadnavis, who serves as the chief patron of NCI and previously held the position of its president. Interacting with the NCI leadership, Tata described the institute as a world-class facility. He also expressed concern about the rising consumption of tobacco, which has emerged as a major cause of cancer in the region.

During the discussions, Tata Trusts CEO Siddharth Sharma suggested that the time was right for Tata Trusts and NCI to collaborate on cancer research and clinical trials.Earlier, Shailesh Joglekar, general secretary and CEO of NCI, along with Dr Anand Pathak, medical director, presented an overview of the institute's establishment and its growth as one of the country's leading cancer care centres. The Tata Trusts delegation was also briefed on several upcoming initiatives in healthcare and cancer research.Earlier, Sunil Manohar, president of NCI, Joglekar and Dr Pathak welcomed the dignitaries and also conducted a tour of the facility.Amruta Fadnavis, Dr Shailesh Shrikhande, chief executive of the Tata Cancer Care Foundation, Shashi Mandapaty, director (Global Operations & Strategy), and Anand Aurangabadkar, Treasurer, were present on the occasion.
