Nandini will be the only child from Maharashtra this year to receive this state level award. She will receive a cash prize, a silver medal, a certificate and a citation as part of the award. Speaking to TOI, she says, "It is another feather in my cap. I like getting awards. And besides, I will also get to tour Delhi!"
Nandini's father, Laxminarayan aka Nandu, says, "We had applied on her behalf for the award last year as well. However, the local department that was to forward the application goofed up and failed to send the letter even after the last date!"
"Therefore, we were extra cautious about this year's application. However, although we never lost hope, we were not all that sure of her being chosen for the award. Nandini has had to compete with a lot of talented young children from Pune and Mumbai, some of whom were more than double her age. The cut-off age for this award is 14 years," Nandu says.
Asked what she will do once she reaches Delhi, Nandini replies, "I'll tell jokes." And then tumbles out another achievement of hers. She will also be perform in a laughter show to be telecast on one of the leading television channels in the country, and that invitation has come just on Saturday, says Nandu.
