Vice-chancellor of Raisoni University Rajan Welukar was in the chair while pro-vice-chancellor of Nagpur University Pramod Yeole was the chief guest. Also present were Amandas Mohite, founding president of the organization and president Dr Deepak Walokar.
Dharmadhikari said, “India was fragmented as princely states were ruling before independence. However, the situation has not changed on expected lines even after getting freedom.”
Taking this point further, he said, “It is an irony that though we as a nation stand united, there are some states which clash with each others on various issues. May it be boundaries or rivers, the respective governments are not ready to rise above politics. In fact, some leaders always keep the pot boiling especially when it comes to sharing the waters of Ganga, Narmada or Cauvery rivers.”
Dharmadhikari appealed to social workers to take up the challenges of resolving differences over language and casteism to develop a nationalistic attitude in the society. He suggested that a uniform education system should be developed by policymakers so that there would be better understanding of the subject matter.
Yeole said the progress seen in the fields of science and technology hasn’t been replicated in society. “Research in today’s age has been limited to getting degrees. But there is a need to do research in the field of social work, making it people-centric and highlighting problems that are plaguing the community,” he added.
Welukar spoke about how companies today are able to predict the behavioural patterns of people on the basis of their data collection.
