Nagpur: Only the registrar is among the top positions that currently has a full-time officer at Nagpur University where key posts, including vice-chancellor, pro-VC, director of Board of Examinations and Evaluation (BoEE), director of Innovation, Incubation and Linkages (IIL), director of Sports, and other bodies, have fallen vacant in the last couple of months. Several teaching positions have remained vacant for a long duration.
While the university managed to get BoEE and IIL directors' posts advertised, the rest may have to wait further until the model code of conduct is lifted or the new state govt is formed.
Though the NU advertised the BoEE and IIL director posts, an early appointment is not expected. The last date for application is November 7, followed by scrutiny and subsequent interviews.
The advertisement for a new VC is also unlikely to be released because of the assembly election. This post is expected to be filled only after the formation of the new govt. Gondwana vice-chancellor Prashant Bokare is holding the charge of NU ever since the suspension of vice-chancellor Subhash Chaudhari for the last several months. Following the death of Chaudhari in September, Bokare's charge was extended.
Chaudhari's death also brought to an end the tenure of pro-VC Sanjay Dudhe as per the Maharashtra Public Universities Act. Since then, the pro-VC's office is vacant, and the possibility of the university getting an acting pro-VC anytime soon is low.
Dean of commerce and management faculty Sanjay Kavishwar has been holding the charge of BoEE after the tenure of Prafulla Sabale came to an end in September. The advertisements for the posts of directors of students welfare, lifelong learning and extension, and sports too can't be released at least until the poll code is in force.
The NU got sanction to fill up 92 teaching posts in its postgraduate department as well as its conducted college, Laxminarayan Institute of Technology (LIT). But later, LIT became an independent university, necessitating clarity on the vacancies. The 92 posts also included 23 posts from LIT.
Then VC Chaudhari wrote to the govt seeking clarity on the issue, but the query is still awaited. The NU received over 2,000 applications for the 92 posts. Once the new govt is formed, it is expected a new roster for NU and LITU would be made, only after which the respective vacancies could be filled.
Prashant Bokare said the GR regarding teaching posts is pending while advertisement for other posts can't be published during the model code of conduct.
