Nagpur paddlers’ poorest of poor show at home

Nagpur: City paddlers registered a new low in the 3rd Maharashtra State Ranking table tennis tournament, which concluded at Subhedar Hall on Tuesday. Of the 24 quarterfinal matches played in three age categories in both the boys' and girls' sections on the concluding day, not a single Nagpur player was able to reach the last eight stage of the tournament organised by the Nagpur District Table Tennis Association (NDTTA).While players from Parbhani and Solapur clinched gold medals, Nagpur players' poor display is a matter of concern for NDTTA and local coaches. Of six final matches in both the boys' and girls' sections in the U-11, U-13, and U-15 age categories, players from Parbhani, Solapur, Nashik, Mumbai, Pune, and Thane clinched a gold medal each.In the U-11 girls' final, Parbhani's top seed Aadya Baheti prevailed over Kolhapur's Samrudhi Manvekar 11-4, 11-2, 12-10, as Solapur's Rajvardhan Tiwari drubbed Mumbai's Avyaan Singh Walia 11-8, 11-6, 11-6 to emerge as the new boys' champion.In contrast, the U-13 girls' final was an exciting affair where Nashik's top seed Keshika Purkar had to sweat hard to get the better of Thane's Dnyanashree Tarde 9-11, 11-9, 11-9, 8-11, 12-10. In an all-Mumbai Suburban (TST) boys' title clash, Raghav Mahajan outplayed Aakarshan Yadav 11-4, 11-8, 9-11, 11-9.The U-15 finals in both categories were lop-sided affairs. In the girls' title clash, Pune's sixth-seeded Naisha Rewaskar stunned top seed Sanvi Puranik of Thane 11-7, 11-4, 11-2.
