Nagpur: Congress candidate Vikas Thakre held with cash in car

NAGPUR: Congress candidate from Nagpur South West, Vikas Thakre, was intercepted with cash around Rs 1.05 lakh in the car in which he had been traveling near Raj Nagar slums in the wee hours of Monday. The cash and the car was handed over to static surveillance team (SST) for further action.


Police sources said Congress senior leader Thakre, pitted against BJP's sitting MLA Sudhakar Deshmukh, was travelling in a car along with others. The car was stopped by the cops for checking at the bandobast point.

According to a reliable source, 21 envelopes with cash of Rs 5,000 in each was found during inside the car during checking. When cops asked about the ownership details of the car, Thakre denied that it was his car. As the cops were in the process of taking the car, Congress supporters rushed to the spot. Senior police officials also reached the spot as the Congress supporters had started gathering in large numbers.

The car and the cash were seized by the cops before being taken to Sadar police station. The cops later handed over the cash and the car to the static surveillance team (SST) for further action.
