NAGPUR: International sea swimmer Sukhadeo Dhurve was honoured by Commissioner of Police
Bhushan Kumar Upadhyay at a function held here recently.
Dhurve, who is an employee of
Nagpur City Police
, along with his wife Vaishali, son Sarthak and nine-year-old daughter Tanvi swam 16 kilometres distance between
Elephanta Caves
and Gateway of India in Mumbai in 4 hours and 50 minutes on April 28, 2019. Dhurve family’s unqiue record was also figured in the ‘Asian Book of Records.’
After achieving the landmark, Dhurves had claimed that they they have become the first family in the entire Asian continent to achieve this feat. The adventure expedition started early morning from Elephanta.
CP Upadhyay appreciated his efforts and wished him best luck for the future events during the felicitation programme. He was also given Rs 50,000 by CP.
“Felicitation by CP will certainly motivate me to perform even better in my future meets. It is really an honour for me. I will work hard to live up to his expectations,” said Dhurve after his felicitation.
Earlier, Dhurve had swam 25km Gibraltar strait, Dharamter to Gateway of India 35km strait, Revas to Gateway of India 25km strait, Mora to Gateway of India 19km strait within record time. For these achievements, he was honoured with Sarthi, Vidarbha Gaurav,
Shiv Chhhatrapati
awards along with Barrister Sheshrao Wankhede Sports award and Veer Birsa Munda award.
