Nagpur cagers Sameeksha, Sarthak to lead Maharashtra in sub-junior basketball nationals
NAGPUR: Sameeksha Chandak and
The Nationals will be played at the Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium in Cuttack, Odisha from September 3 to 9.
In the previous edition of the national U-13 championship, Maharashtra girls emerged triumphant while the state boys team brought home silver medal.
From the recently held Mayor’s Cup Maharashtra State Sub-Junior (U-13) Basketball Championship in the city, 16 probable players were selected. After a seven-day preparatory camp, the 12-member Maharashtra teams in both the boys and girls’ section was selected for the Nationals.
All the players were given playing kits in two different colours sponsored by Cosco, track suits, kit bags, t-shirts and caps at an event on Saturday. The kit distribution was done by businessman Chetan Bhartia. On the occasion, secretary of Nagpur District Basketball Association (NDBA) Bhavesh Kuchanwar presided over the function and wished the squad luck. NDBA vice president Samir Shrivastava, treasurer Nitin Patwardhan, executive member Shatrughna Gokhale and others were also present.
The state teams departed from Nagpur railway station on Sunday afternoon.

Girls: Sameeksha Chandak (captain), Gunjan Mantri, Samruddhi Agrawal (all Nagpur), Aanaya Bhavsar, Sara Chopade, Janhavi Kakde, Pragati Nawale, Akshaya Patil (all Pune), Rutuja Nalwade, Afza Khan (both Mumbai Central), Samira Bhalla (Mumbai South West), Siddhi Shinde (Satara).
Head coach: Shatrughna Gokhale. Coach: Dhiraj Kadao. Manager: Tejaswini Mahadik.
Boys: Sarthak Dhuldhule (Nagpur, captain), Yogesh Yadav, Taufiq Shaikh, Amit Yadav (all Mumbai South West), Badal Rawat, Aryan Lakhani, Zain Lakhani, Manit Agrawal, Magh Atre (all Pune), Rajveer Shah, Hemant Lakhpati (both Mumbai North), Kunal Shinde (Satara).
