Nagpur airport has no Turk but Greek ground handling company
Nagpur: As the Bureau of Civil Aviation Safety (BCAS) cancelled the licence of Turkish ground agency Celebi Airport Services, affecting operations at some airports, Nagpur was spared. Even Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar International Airport here has a foreign ground handling agency, but it's from Greece. Coincidentally, Greece and Turkey share a common border, though not political views on the India-Pakistan conflict.Since November last year, Goldair Handling has taken over as the ground handling agency for Nagpur airport. The company has its origins in Greece, said senior officials in Mihan India Limited (MIL) — the agency operating Nagpur airport. A ground handling agency carries out a slew of activities from the landing to take-off of the aircraft. At some places, even boarding passes are issued by the ground handling agency.Nagpur airport has two agencies: Air India Airport Services Limited (AIASL) and Goldair Handling. The latter came through the bidding process, while AIASL got the mandate directly as it is a govt company, and has been the ground handling company even earlier, said an airport source. AIASL normally handles scheduled aircraft, while Goldair does the handling for unscheduled (chartered) flights, a source said.Goldair is the first private handling company, which has been operating in a liberalised Greek market since 1999, according to the company's website.
