Muslims protest remarks against Prophet

Thousands of Muslims took out a silent protest march in city on Friday to flay the alleged defamatory statement against Prophet Mohammad made by Kamlesh Tiwari, a self-professed working president of Hindu Mahasabha of Uttar Pradesh. An FIR was also filed against Tiwari at city police station for hurting religious sentiments.

Chandrapur: Thousands of Muslims took out a silent protest march in city on Friday to flay the alleged defamatory statement against Prophet Mohammad made by Kamlesh Tiwari, a self-professed working president of Hindu Mahasabha of Uttar Pradesh. An FIR was also filed against Tiwari at city police station for hurting religious sentiments.
Calls were given in the mosques during afternoon prayers to Muslims to join the protest march to flay the defamatory statement.

Senior clergies and leaders of the community led the march from Gandhi Chowk to district collectorate after Friday prayers. Protesters wore black badges and held placards demanding stringent action against Tiwari for making slanderous statement against the community and its prophet. The rally was so huge that it blocked the entire road, forcing the traffic to be diverted to other lanes.
The protesters later submitted a memorandum to the district collector demanding action against Tiwari for offending the sentiments of the Muslim community. Senior leader Sayyad Abid Ali, who led the protesters, flayed Tiwari for defaming the prophet. He claimed that such statements are made intentionally to divide the society on communal lines. He demanded strict action against such elements that are sowing the seeds of hatred.
Earlier, a delegation of protesters visited city police station and filed a complaint against Tiwari for hurting religious sentiments. The protesters took a stand that they would not move till FIR is registered against Tiwari. Taking cognizance of their sentiments, an FIR was registered, Abid Ali informed.
