Mungantiwar unveils inclusive development agenda for Chandrapur
Chandrapur: Former minister and Ballarpur MLA Sudhir Mungantiwar on Thursday outlined an ambitious development roadmap for Chandrapur under the newly-formed BJP-led municipal corporation, assuring Congress corporators and all elected representatives that funds would be allocated without political discrimination.Addressing a press conference alongside new mayor Sangeeta Khandekar and deputy mayor Prashant Danao, the senior BJP leader emphasised collective leadership and pledged a governance model focused on transparency, inclusivity and long-term urban planning.
Mungantiwar said the administration would soon review long-pending civic issues and convene a citizens' conclave at Priyadarshini Auditorium to draft a comprehensive city development plan. He acknowledged the municipal corporation's weak financial health, noting that expenditure currently exceeds income, and said the new regime would prioritise expanding revenue streams through innovative and sustainable measures. Highlighting infrastructure priorities, he said discussions with Union transport minister Nitin Gadkari had advanced plans for a ring road to ease traffic congestion. The administration is also exploring the widening of Development Plan roads, strengthening water supply pipelines and addressing persistent urban infrastructure challenges in coordination with corporators across parties. "Out of Mhada's 10,000 housing projects in New Chandrapur, the Central govt has given the green light to 2,000 houses," he said.Urban renewal initiatives include the creation of a new bazaar area, modern parking facilities and improved open spaces. Mungantiwar proposed developing a 75-acre playground near Government Medical College and redeveloping Jubilee High School ground to enhance public amenities. He also pledged improvements in slum areas, expansion of public toilets and the launch of a technology-driven grievance redressal system to ensure faster civic responses.Addressing environmental and planning concerns, he said the resurvey of the Irai and Zarpata rivers' blue floodlines has been ordered. Once revised boundaries are finalised, the exercise is expected to unlock planned and sustainable development opportunities across the city.
