Mrunmayee, Himangi steer NBYS to quarters

Nagpur: Mrunmayee Sathe and Himangi Nimbulkar combined well to score 25 points as Nutan Bharat Yuwak Sangh (NBYS) defeated second outfit of hosts Dharampeth Krida Mandal (DKM-B) in the Asmita Khelo India U-17 girls’ basketball championship at the Shankar Nagar court on Wednesday.
While Mrunmayee scored a game-high 14 points, Himangi added 11 in a well-paced league clash where NBYS took time to settle into the groove. Once they found the rhythm, NBYS girls outplayed their young opponents by 27 points. For DKM-B Anaya Prabhune (7) and Sanvi Dudhe (6) played well.
In contrast all the other league round games were lop-sided contests on the third day of the girls’ tournament presented by the Basketball Federation of India (BFI) and Sports Authority of India (SAI). The home team DKM-A district youth champions Shivaji Nagar Gymkhana (SNG-A) and Gurudeo Nagar Krida Mandal (GKM) won their second successive league games to emerge pool toppers and qualified for the quarterfinals.
