Measures in place as first Haj flight is scheduled today

Nagpur: The first flight carrying Haj pilgrims from the city is set to depart at 3.35am on April 24, with authorities ensuring comprehensive arrangements to avoid any inconvenience during the journey to holy Mecca.Divisional commissioner Vijayalakshmi Bidari held a review meeting and directed officials to take all necessary precautions. Bidari assessed arrangements and emphasised coordination among all agencies.Around 1,700 pilgrims from Nagpur and nearby areas will travel this year, while nearly 19,335 pilgrims from states such as Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh will also depart via Nagpur. Special daily flights have been arranged through the Maharashtra State Haj Committee.A key feature this year is the introduction of smart watches for pilgrims, enabling real-time tracking, medical alerts and communication with a central control room. Authorities said this will help prevent inconvenience. Pilgrims have been advised to carry essential medicines.Additional divisional commissioner Tejusingh Pawar said arrangements for manpower and transport, including railway coordination, are in place. Khadija Naikwade is overseeing logistics and facilities.
