Nagpur: Mayor Neeta Thakre on Wednesday announced the nomination of nine corporators to the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC), with the
BJP securing six of the seats.
The ruling party nominated Sanjay Thakre, Jitu Thakur, Subodh Acharya, Ritesh Gawande, Devendra Meher and Vinod Baghel. Shiv Sena's Suraj Goje was also nominated, while the Congress filled two slots with Ketan Thakre and businessman Atul Kotecha.
One seat remains vacant against the sanctioned strength of 10, as the AIMIM–IUML alliance failed to finalise a nominee. Businessman Narendra Jichkar's name was considered earlier but could not be cleared due to internal differences within AIMIM.
In a parallel development, BJP leader Sheshrao Gotmare was nominated as a trustee of the Nagpur Improvement Trust. The House also appointed Lakshmi Hattithele as chairperson of the Weaker Sections Committee, constituting an 11-member panel.
The announcements further consolidate the BJP's position in the civic body, leaving the opposition with limited representation.
