NAGPUR: Versatile actor Kadambari Kadam seamlessly shifts mediums. Equally at ease on big screen, television and stage, the actor says that she is happy with the manner in which Marathi entertainment industry is flourishing. "The scenario has changed dramatically over the past five years and we are seeing a surge in the number of newbie writers and directors," she says.
Kadam has acted in the film Ajinkya which was the maiden venture of Nagpur-based filmmaker Tejas Deoskar. "It is a very encouraging trend that small cities are now throwing up local talent who are making their own films. It saves them from moving to Mumbai and struggling there," she feels. Kadam graduated to commercial theatre with the play Tom Ani Jerry.
The play had its 101 show in Nagpur recently.
"Theatre activity in this city has grown and it is all due to the relentless efforts of the local theatre promoters," she says and adds, "Marathi audience relies a lot on previews and reviews. Thus, support of media becomes essential especially in towns were this culture is growing."
Happy with the manner in which Marathi films and theatre are being received in cities other then Mumbai and Pune, Kadam says that more contemporary and universal themes are attracting audiences as they identify better with them.
