'Attacked with repeated kicks, punches': Man kills mother over bitter gourd curry in Maharashtra

CHANDRAPUR: Arguments over preparation of bitter gourd curry for dinner allegedly ended in tragedy when a 37-year-old man is said to have fatally assaulted his 65-year-old mother in Dongargaon village of Mul taluka on Thursday night.

The accused, identified as Jagdish Petkule, was arrested shortly after the incident.


According to preliminary police findings, an argument broke out between Petkule and his mother, Sumitra, regarding the dinner dish.

The quarrel reportedly escalated, and he allegedly attacked her with repeated kicks and punches. Sumitra is believed to have succumbed to the injuries on the spot.

Police sources indicated that the accused had a history of alcohol dependence. His wife had reportedly left him two months ago, after which he had been living with his mother. On the night of the incident, he was allegedly under the influence of alcohol.

Villagers alerted police soon after learning about the assault. A team from Mul police station reached the village, secured the scene, and detained the accused. The body has been sent for postmortem to determine the exact cause of death.

Police have registered a case and launched a detailed investigation to ascertain the sequence of events and any additional circumstances surrounding the crime.
