Man killed in tiger attack in Tadoba’s Moharli buffer

Chandrapur: A Gypsy driver attached to Tadoba-Andhari Tiger Reserve (TATR) was killed in a tiger attack on Wednesday morning, once again underlining the intensifying human-wildlife conflict in Chandrapur district.The victim, Amol Baban Nannaware (38), a resident of Bhamdeli in Bhadravati taluka, had gone to his farm to hand over a motor pump to his father, who was preparing for pesticide spraying. Around 11.30 am, a tiger lurking nearby leapt at him and dragged him nearly 50 feet away. The incident took place in full view of his father, who raised an alarm. Startled by the shouts, the tiger abandoned the body and retreated into the forest.Forest officials led by range forest officer Santosh Thipe and police personnel, including inspector Yogesh Pardhi, reached the spot soon after. Nannaware's body was shifted to Bhadravati Rural Hospital for postmortem. Forest department has sanctioned an immediate relief of Rs50,000 to the victim's wife Premila. Authorities said camera traps have been deployed in the area and villagers are being urged to exercise caution while working in fields.The latest death has pushed the number of wildlife attack fatalities in the district to 33 this year. While 30 of the victims have been killed by tigers, the rest perished in isolated attacks of leopard, elephant, and sloth bear.The district has seen a string of fatal incidents over the past nine days alone, leaving four people dead.
