Maharashtra Open Ranking Table Tennis tournament in Nagpur from September 7
NAGPUR: The fourth Maharashtra Open Ranking State Table Tennis Championship, organized by the
In-form city paddler Jennifer Verghese has been given the top billing in the cadet girls singles, said NDTTA secretary Ashutosh Potnis while addressing a press conference here on Wednesday.
“Around thousand players are expected to take part in the five-day tournament. The total prize money is Rs 1.50 lakh. Out of the five-six ranking tourneys of the season, we generally conduct one of them and we have been doing it for nearly two decades now. On the basis of performance in these ranking tournaments, state squad is selected for the Nationals,” said Potnis.
The long serving NDTTA secretary Potnis said the Nagpur leg of the tourney will be organized in various categories. Junior boys section has received maximum 160 entries followed by sub-junior girls which have 88 entries. Senior men’s and youth boys have also attracted 80 entires each. More than 100 local players will also compete for the top honours.
He added that eight tables will be used for the tourney which will be placed on the newly laid synthetic hova courts of Subhedar Hall. Mangesh Mopkar will be the chief referee, while Praful Nandedkar will be the joint referee. Rajesh Mopkar will be the tournament director.
