Maha clears Rs60 crore for EV incentives, toll waivers
Nagpur: The Maharashtra govt approved the disbursal of Rs60cr under the Maharashtra Electric Vehicle Policy 2025, clearing pending demand-side incentives and toll tax reimbursements linked to the state's push for electric mobility.Of the total amount, Rs30 crore will be released to clear incentives approved earlier under the Maharashtra Electric Vehicle Policy 2021. An additional Rs26cr was sanctioned for demand incentives under the 2025 policy, based on verified claims and vehicle sales data submitted by manufacturers.
The approved incentives cover electric 2-wheelers, 3-wheelers, and 4-wheelers. Manufacturers eligible for the disbursal include Bajaj Auto, Tata Motors, Mahindra Last Mile Mobility, Ather Energy, Piaggio Vehicles, Euler Motors, and others, as per the govt resolution issued on Tuesday. The remaining Rs4cr will be used to reimburse toll tax exemptions granted to electric vehicles. This amount will be released to agencies including the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) and the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA), which implemented toll waivers as part of the EV policy framework. The GR states that the disbursal follows recommendations of a committee chaired by the additional chief secretary (transport), which reviewed claims, vehicle numbers, and compliance with policy guidelines. Funds will be released on a first-come, first-served basis, subject to verification. The govt imposed conditions on utilisation, including submission of utilisation certificates and ensuring that funds are used strictly for the purposes for which they are sanctioned. Transport dept officials were designated as controlling and disbursing authorities for the scheme. The approval is expected to provide liquidity support to EV manufacturers and implementing agencies, while reinforcing the state's commitment to promoting electric mobility through fiscal incentives and non-monetary measures such as toll exemptions.Maharashtra positioned the EV Policy 2025 as a key pillar of its clean mobility strategy, aimed at reducing vehicular emissions and accelerating adoption of electric vehicles across segments.
