NAGPUR: Senior Congress leader Vijay Wadettiwar on Monday launched a scathing attack on the Mahayuti govt over its decision to provide a 2.5-year tenure to certain ministers, likening it to “looting the treasury.”

He accused the BJP-led coalition of treating ministerial appointments as though they were positions in local bodies like gram panchayats or municipal councils, where mayors and sarpanchs are given short tenures.

Speaking to the media on the first day of the winter session of the state legislature at the Vidhan Bhavan premises, Wadettiwar proposed that instead of granting 2.5-year terms to select ministers, the govt should distribute the opportunity among all its MLAs.

"If this is the approach, why not give each MLA a one-year tenure as a minister?" he questioned, sarcastically critiquing the coalition's governance style.

The Congress leader also expressed dismay over the exclusion of senior leaders like Chhagan Bhujbal from ministerial positions, describing it as evidence of the Mahayuti govt’s “use-and-throw” policy.

He claimed the ruling alliance was disregarding experienced politicians in favour of political expediency, further destabilising governance.
