Liquor manufacturing den raided

Perhaps for the first time, city police team under deputy commissioner of police (DCP) Abhinash Kumar, evoked stringent section 328 of Indian Penal Code (IPC) against a bootlegger, identified Rajeev Verma, for allegedly inflicting hurt by means of poison. NAGPUR: Perhaps for the first time, city police team under deputy commissioner of police (DCP) Abhinash Kumar, evoked stringent section 328 of Indian Penal Code (IPC) against a bootlegger, identified Rajeev Verma, for allegedly inflicting hurt by means of poison. The team raided Verma’s den at Lodhipura in Bajeria on Friday.
The addition of the IPC section, along with Maharashtra Prohibition Act, could mean a prolonged jail term for Verma.

The IPC section, if proved, can lead to an imprisonment up to 10 years and fine. Ganespeth police station staffers, under PI Sudhir Nandanwar, too participated in the raid led by DCP Kumar, who was recently shifted to east Nagpur’s Zone-III.
It is learnt, police have also seized material worth Rs73,500, including vehicle for ferrying crude liquor. Around 30 litres of poisonous raw material, a few barrels, each containing 20 litres of liquid, several containers and vessels were recovered from the den. Sources claimed that some of the raw material stacked for manufacturing country liquor could be harmful for humans. Samples have been sent to the regional forensic science laboratory for examination.
