Laxmi-Pyare’s lilting songs leave audience spellbound
Nagpur: ‘Mere Dil Mein Aaj Kya Hai’, a programme based on composers Laxmikant-Pyarelal who scored music for hundreds of memorable songs, had the audience tap their feet at Scientific Society Hall, Laxmi Nagar, on Saturday.
The programme, organized by Swapnagandh, covered many shades of life and gave the audience a gala time.
Commencing with instrumental presentation from the movie ‘Karz’, the musical journey began with Sameer Upadhye presenting the title song, followed by Niketa Joshi and Ajay Deshpande beautifully singing duet ‘Woh jab yaad aaye’.
‘Hum aur tum’, sung by Maya Saikhedkar and Prakash Deshpande, symbolized the friendship and unbreakable bond that the music directors shared. Songs like ‘Mera jaanu mera sajan’ by Smita Tongaokar and Upadhye, ‘Haye haye yeh majboori’ by Niketa and ‘Jhilmil sitaron ka aangan hoga’ by Saikhedkar and Ajay got repeated applause.
‘Tum jo chale gaye to’ was sung by Saikhedkar and Ajay showcased the ups and downs in the relationship of Laxmikant and Pyarelal. This was followed by ‘Mujhe kuchh kehna hai’, sung by Niketa and Upadhye. The solos sung at the event included ‘O manchali’ by Prakash, ‘Oh my love’ by Ajay, ‘Bada dukh dina’ by Tongaokar and ‘Koi sehri babu’ by Saikhedkar.
Duets ‘Woh hai zara khafa khafa’, sung by Tongaokar and Ajay, ‘Din mahine saal’ by Saikhedkar and Upadhye, ‘Khubsoorat haseena’ by Niketa and Prakash and ‘Dhal gaya din’ by Tongaokar and Ajay were liked by the audience. The event concluded with ‘Achha to hum chalte hain’, a duet sung by Saikhedkar and Upadhye.
The accompanying artistes were Parimal Joshi (keyboard), Pankaj Yadav (tabla), Mahendra Vatulkar (octopad), Robin Williams (bass guitar), Gaurav Tanksale (lead guitar) and Deepak Kamble (dholak and bongos).
Anchor Namrata Agnihotri narrated the journey of Laxmikant Kudalkar and Pyarelal Sharma who came together and gave lilting tunes to music lovers.
She said, “Both Laxmikant and Pyarelal had a rough start. They met each other during this period, grew closer and their bond became stronger. They soon established their dominance in music industry with beautiful compositions. They became inseparable to such an extent that people started to think of Laxmikant-Pyarelal as one name and not two different persons.”
