Lata’s songs give music lovers time to cherish
Nagpur: Lata Mangeshkar is like a dream the world has seen in her melodious voice. The spell cast by her singing prowess continues to grow irrespective of generations even as she completed 90 years of age in September.
A programme titled ‘Mai Lata’, based on her lilting songs, organized as part of Khasdar Sankrutik Mahotsav at Ishwar Deshmukh College of Physical Education, Hanuman Nagar, on Sunday, was a runaway hit.
The programme saw a galaxy of talented and popular singers mesmerize music lovers who showed up in large numbers in a cold evening.
Bollywood singer Mahalakshmi Iyer, Suvarna Mategaonkar, Sharayu Date and Prashant Naseri made up for a wonderfully sonorous evening filled with Lata’s single and duet songs.
Anand Deshmukh started the musical with Marathi patriotic number ‘Aamhi putra amrutache’. Next, Swarda Gokhale performed the beautiful cover of Lata’s classic ‘Aayega aanewala’ from the movie ‘Mahal’.
Sharayu Date’s ‘Woh chand khila woh taare hanse’ from the movie ‘Anari’ made the audience tap feet and hum with her lovely presentation. Swarda gave a melodious rendition of ‘O sajana barkha bahar aayi’.
Iyer mesmerized the audience with the song ‘Rasme ulfat ko nibhaye kaise’ from the movie ‘Dil Ki Rahen’.
The other songs included ‘Hotho pe aisi baat main daba ke chali aayee’, ‘Inhi logo ne le liya dupatta mera’ and ‘Dekha ek khwab to ye silsile huay’. The event concluded with ‘Vande Mataram’, originally sung by Lata.
It must have been a tough challenge for the organizers to choose 25 numbers from thousands of songs Lata has sung.
The programme was conceptualized by Parag Mategaonkar along with violinist Jitu Thakur and music conductor Chirag Panchal.
Present at the programme were Union transport minister Nitin Gadkari, former minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule, mayor Sandip Joshi, Sanjay Gupta, Nandini Kumar, Guinness World Records holder in singing Sunil Waghmare, MLCs Nago Ganar and Anil Sole and BJP corporator Pravin Datke.
